With over a million young people not in employment, education and training our work has rarely been more important. This is not only a cost to the young people effected, but is also a significant loss to society and the economy. If we worked together to reduce youth unemployment by half, that would mean 500,000 more people in employment or training, and a potential economic boost of £69 billion.
With over 16% of 16 to 24 year olds are neither earning or learning and youth unemployment more 3 times higher than all age groups, there is a significant and entrenched challenge to be urgently responded to.
It will only be through collective and cross-sector approaches that we will begin to address this problem and thankfully there is a growing body of research and understanding of the issues and a compelling evidence base of what works.
Over the years Youth Careers Collective (formerly Spark!) has worked with over 50,000 young people, over 2000 businesses and employers and more than 100 schools and communities.
While the quantitative data we collect explains the breadth and depth of our impact, it is the stories and qualitative data that really highlights and brings to life the human connection and value of our work, on individuals and our partners.
The West London Youth Employment Roadmap is a cross-sector partnership initiative between Youth Careers Collective, West London Alliance, West London Business and West London Careers Hub, aiming to significantly reducing youth unemployment and boosting productivity and growth.
The Roadmap provides clear guidance and tangible actions that can be taken by employers, local councils, schools and colleges, and the voluntary youth sector, which will positively impact on youth unemployment across this sub-region.
