Youth Careers Collective
Employer engagement

Meaningful and multiple employer engagement is key to young people broadening their career horizons, raising their career aspirations and building their career confidence. Our tailored programmes expose young people to a diverse range of local employers and career options, allowing them to see and access new pathways into work.

Careers and Employability Workshops

In today’s job market, employers look for people not just with technical skills, but also key interpersonal and professional skills. While technical competencies can be learned through courses or experience, employability skills are just as important to help staff be more effective, happy and successful in the workplace and are often more sought after in the hiring process.

Our work with schools and businesses offers a wide range of opportunities to help develop young people’s employability skills in an impactful way. We always bring a diverse range of employers with us, to ensure meaningful engagement for students. Aligned with the SkillsBuilder Framework, different types of opportunities include:

  • Employability skills workshops
  • Employer engagement workshops
  • Labour Market Information and pathways into work
  • CV and interview skills
  • Speed networking with local employers

Youth Employability Partnership Programme

In partnership with schools, we broker relationships with local employers and mobilise them to implement multiple and meaningful engagements with employers and workplaces, over the course of an academic year, to support up to 30 students (aged 14 to 18), who have been identified as being at-risk of becoming ‘Not in Employment, Education or Training’.

On average young people will have 10 meaningful encounters with employers, with activities prioritising practice and tangible experiences to develop students’ core employability skills, in line with the SkillsBuilder Framework.

The Youth Employability Partnership Programme has 3 key phases:

Explore
strengths, weaknesses and options for moving forward
Learn
how to master employability skills through practical and engaging sessions
Practise
skills through mock applications, assessment centres and interviews

If you are a school or college and would like to discuss how we can support you and your students through a range of meaningful employer engagement activities please contact gracevandervelde@youthcareers.org.uk.
